postinorPostinor-2 is a contraceptive used in preventing pregnancy. It is also known as the “Morning After Pill”.

It is a medication to prevent pregnancy after having unprotected sexual intercourse.

Postinor-2 is not intended as a regular method of contraception. It is used to prevent pregnancy when taken within 72 hours of unprotected intercourse. It is estimated that Postinor-2 will prevent 85% of expected pregnancies. 95% of expected pregnancies will be prevented if taken within the first 24 hours, declining to 58% if taken between 48 hours and 72 hours after unprotected intercourse.

It is not known whether Postinor-2 is effective if taken more than 72 hours after unprotected intercourse.

The sooner you use POSTINOR-2, the more effective it is! Take the second tablet 12 hours after the first tablet! In case you vomited within three hours after using the first or the second tablet or you have severe diarrhoea, you need to get a new package of the product and use a new tablet as soon as possible.

POSSIBLE ADVERSE EFFECTS
After using POSTINOR-2, nausea, breast tenderness headache, lower abdominal pain and tiredness may occur. These adverse effects subside within few days.

You may have irregular bleeding or spotting until the next menstrual bleeding and also the next menstrual bleeding may be unusual. Next menstrual bleeding is normal and comes at the usual time in most women but it comes sooner or later than usual in others. If menstrual bleeding comes more than 5 days later or is unusually weak or vice versa unusually strong, it could be due to failure of this
method.

In such case and anytime you suspect you are pregnant, immediately contact your gynaecologist.

High Risk Of Infertility
Ladies often use Postinor-2 wrongly; using more than a tablet at once, combining the pills with other drugs, and consuming more than twelve pills in a month. Prolonged use of this emergency contraceptive could cause a woman’s monthly period to seize indefinitely or become irregular. The chance of becoming pregnant with an irregular or non-flowing period is slim or close to zero. It also could cause a shift in the ovulation cycle, destroy the womb and cause infertility at the long run.
